How Compassion Became a Calling

Founded in 2005 by Paul and Kathy Shepard-Lee, Children’s Burial Assistance began with one simple belief. No family should ever face financial hardship when saying goodbye to their child.

Paul and Kathy never set out to start a nonprofit. But after meeting countless grieving parents who could not afford their child’s burial, they recognized a need too painful to ignore.

What began as a heartfelt response to one family’s struggle soon revealed a nationwide gap. Very few resources existed to help families manage the costs of burying or cremating their children. Determined to make a difference, Paul and Kathy founded Children’s Burial Assistance (CBA) in Atlanta, Georgia.

Through donated burial plots, urns, and trusted community partnerships, CBA has supported families across the United States with dignity, compassion, and care during their darkest moments.

Today, their legacy of empathy lives on through volunteers, donors, and partners who whare their belief that every child deserves to be remembered, and every family deserves support.

Hope in Action

Every burial plot collected and every partnership formed represents a promise, a promise that no family will face loss without support or dignity.

Children’s Burial Assistance has grown from a local act of compassion into a nationwide mission. Each donated plot and urn represents hope for a family in need. As we continue to grow, our goal is to move from relying solely on donated resources to building a dedicated funding program so we can say yes more often, reach more families, and respond more quickly when help is needed.
